He literally pleaded that he was innocent and be allowed to return home but there was no one to raise voice for him. He remained in forced exile for several years but when he staged a comeback, he was chucked out by the dictator and his power thirsty cronies, hovering around him [Sharif] today like jugglers.
The dictator often claimed to ban him from entering Pakistan but with the passage of time all proved to be farce. Exactly after 14-years, his lone MNA from the rugged mountains of Chitral Prince Iftekharuddin - son of a close aide of General Musharraf Prince Mohiuddin - humbly bowed down before the worst enemy of his father reportedly on the directives of his 'commando boss', followed Mian sahib humbly towards Gallery A to vote for him.
The cronies of former military dictator including some 'aunties, begmat, waderas, Legharis, Jamalis, Pirzadas and last but not the least the self-proclaimed contractors of Islam' who changed their loyalties within no time after his departure, were all smile for the man whom they used to call 'ganja' [bald].
But Mian sahib you are also equally responsible for this because you turned your party into a graveyard of turncoats, feudal lords, liars, cheaters, dishonest and disloyal people, who will roll up their sleeves soon for their share of the cake in the ministries. All these people faltering you today have been miserably failed to deliver and their track record is not privy to us all. The road ahead is bumpy and steep. The country is facing enormous challenges such as terrorism, burgeoning energy crisis, lawlessness, inflation, economic downfall and what not.
These problems are not going to be solved through mere prayers and reconciliation. Mian sahib the time has come you must spring into action without paying any heed to these falterers and opportunists, who fall short to declare you the Kamal Ataturk of Pakistan for their own vested interests.
Your lukewarm response while delivering a written speech to National Assembly shortly after being elected as leader of house about terrorism and energy crisis - two major problems which have brought the whole country to almost a standstill - was beyond comprehension. You were very much apologetic [as usual] about the menace of terrorism, militancy and Talibanization in the country. The way you replaced the word terrorism with 'bad amni' during your speech, forced many to believe, 'Mian sahib still has a soft corner for terrorists.'
As saying goes that time is the best healer and only time will tell how Mian sahib will bring back the smiles on the face of those who lost their dear and near ones in the ongoing war on terrorism, by tightening the noose around terrorists, through talks or a cleanup operation to get rid of them once for all.
Once the speech of Mian sahib was over, there came these friends and foes to congratulate to the big man of the country. It was Tehmina Daultana of Vehari - a female lieutenant and an old loyalist of Mian sahib - who presented a 'red rose' to the newly elected prime minister, which he gracefully accepted with a blushing smile on his face. The Sheikha of Lal Haveli went to Mian sahib straight, which many claimed was his first meeting after 14 years with his former mentor, and shook hand with him amid clapping and shouting from the visitors' gallery.
How it was possible that Javed Hashmi would not have shared the big day with his former leader. He even declared that Mian Nawaz Sharif was his 'leader and will remain so', which surprised many after listening this from the mouth of a man, known as rebel. Perhaps Hashmi was recalling his golden days when he had allowed free distribution of Viagra samples as health minister in Sharif's cabinet.
The moment which Mian sahib will remember in the years to come was that when Maulana Fazlur Rehman - a heavyweight cleric from Dera Ismail Khan - marched towards Gallery A to vote for Sharif along with his MPs. Sharif went out from his chamber quickly and walked for voting by holding Maulana's hand.
This is how things moved on slowly and gracefully and Mian sahib surrounded by some of his visibly arrogant lieutenants like the man from Chakri Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Zahid Hamid, Anusha Rehman including some backbenchers like Tahira Aurangzeb, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry coupled with turncoats like Awais Leghari, Zafarullah Khan Jamali [a toothless prime minister of Musharraf], and so on and so forth.
So the man from Raiwind finally conquered and dashed off to presidency all smile to take oath as prime mister from the president, and the commando who staged a military coupe must have shown his trademark 'fist' while imprisoned at his Chak Shehzad farmhouse, few yards away from the parliament. Congratulations Mian sahib you stole the show.... Cheers!!!
